A manifesto for people who can't walk past a nice serif

Design Whore

We fall for every curve, every grid, every perfectly kerned pair. Shamelessly. Mostly good design. Occasionally bad. Never boring.

The manifesto / ten articles, zero apologies

  1. 01

We'll go home with any typeface that buys us a drink.

    Except Papyrus. We have standards.
  2. 02

    Kerning is foreplay.

    Rush it and everybody notices.
  3. 03

Form follows function, then takes it out to dinner.

    Usefulness first. Then romance.
  4. 04

We judge books by their covers. Professionally.

    That's literally the job.
  5. 05

White space isn't empty. It's playing hard to get.

Give it room and it gives you everything.
  6. 06

Grids are for discipline. Breaking them is for Friday night.

Learn the rules so you can misbehave properly.
  7. 07

    Comic Sans has feelings too.

We just don't return its calls.
  8. 08

“Make the logo bigger” is not a brief. It's a cry for help.

    We listen anyway.
  9. 09

    Every pixel is somebody's darling.

    Kill them gently.
  10. 10

    We're easy. We're never cheap.

Love is free. Good work is invoiced.

The confession booth / we've all done it

“I once stretched a logo to fit the banner. Horizontally.”

Penance: ten minutes staring at a Vignelli subway map.

Easy.

Never cheap.
